Frequently asked questions (FAQ) has been developed to provide families and catechists with information about the Faith Formation virtual learning that will start in November for Grades 1-8. Due to the changing landscape of the pandemic, this FAQ will be regularly updated, so you are encouraged to frequently visit this site as the planning develops.
When will Faith Formation sessions begin?
Sessions will begin for Sunday students on Sunday, November 1st from 10:45 AM - 11:25 AM and on for Wednesday students on Wednesday, November 4th from 5:00 PM - 5:40 PM.
Are ALL programs online?
Yes, per the decision of the pastor, all programs will be conducted online.
Why is Faith Formation moving online and not trying in-person sessions?
The Parish and the Faith Formation Team had hoped to provide a hybrid curriculum to gather for some sessions in-person while also providing virtual opportunities. However, as continuous reports and information come out about the pandemic the team believes the best decision this year is to help families focus on deepening their faith lives without the added worry of safety protocols brought about by the COVID pandemic.
What are some of the factors that you considered that led to this decision?
- The student population for Faith Formation includes a variety of families who live in several communities. Children attend school in several districts.
- Archdiocese guidance and guidelines.
- The State of Illinois guidance and guidelines.
I have not registered for this year yet? Can I still enroll?

Families can also contact the Faith Formation Office.
Does it matter which electronic device my child uses for learning during a session?
No. The Google Classroom platform is accessible and can be used on a smartphone, table, or computer running a Google Chrome browser. Please note that if you are using a school issued Chromebooks certain school districts lockdown the computer to their website and email addresses only. Make sure you check in advance of the first day of class to see if you are able to access the child's registered HGAFF.org email address from any school issued devices.
Will this year's virtual format affect my child's dates for receiving the sacraments?
Tentative dates for students preparing for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation have been scheduled. We also understand under the current conditions of the pandemic that there will be additional flexibility to meet families' needs and comply with the social distance guidelines established for parishes by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Families will be notified as soon as possible with the finalized schedule and if any changes are made to the schedule.
My child is preparing for a sacrament and scheduled for a retreat? How is that possible?
Sacramental retreats will be offered virtually. More information will be available shortly and sent to all parents. Attendance will be taken at these virtual events.
